Dearly Beloved Friends and Family. We are gathered here today to share some info and figure out exactly what we are doing September 18, 2010, and the rest of that weekend.
Please consider this "blog"* as an evolving and transmuting wedding invitation. We did consider sending out formal paper invitations, but decided that in the interest of environmental sustainability and convenience for all, doing this electronically is the better choice.
So...We're getting married this year! We're really excited about it, especially the part where everyone we love gets together to meet, eat, hang out, make new friends, and generally have a jolly old time. The purpose of this "blog" is to relay as much pertinent information to our guests about what to expect (much of which we are still figuring out right now), tips for the trip, and to provide a forum for people to ask questions about all that pertinent information we left out. We are really thrilled to plan and present a fun event for everyone, and we hope to have everyone who wants to be involved in the planning, and implementing of the planning involved. 'Cause it's your party too, you know.
So far, we know that we are officially getting married the afternoon/evening of Saturday September 18, 2010. We have rented a fabulous beach house on the Oregon coast in Manzanita. Weather permitting (which we have been assured it almost certainly will be), we will have our ceremony on the beach, preceeded by a short cocktail hour and proceeded by a picnic dinner.
We are inviting all and sundry to arrive in Manzanita sometime on Friday the 17th, to join us for some kind of informal dinner that evening (or possibly a movie/game/cocktail party), and then depart on the morning of the 19th after breakfast. There are several hotels and motels in the area of varying price ranges, but we want to encourage people to consider renting houses on the beach nearby to where we will be staying. Our hope is to have as many people as possible staying together and nearby, to foster a tighter community-feel to the weekend. More on that later, but do contact us if you are interested in sharing a house and need to be connected with others to share with. Let's call it "house pooling."
Again, we are so excited to be sharing our special day with you. Please continue to check back here regularly for more information!
Love,
Libby and Laura
*The word "blog" is so weird and awkward we find we have a hard time using it with a straight face. Additionally, neither of us is particularly fond of the phenomenon of "blogs." (See also: About Us "some people might call them snobs...") This is, by definition a blog, but we'd rather not acknowledge that fact, so somehow the quotations make it a little more comfortable for us.
