While scouting a venue for our event, people kept telling us that Manzanita is the sweetest and most picturesque of all the beach towns in Oregon. Once we visited, and found Lago Mar, we definitely had to agree.
The drive from Portland takes between 2 and 2.5 hours along two beautiful state highways, mostly traversed by logging trucks. The largest beach town nearby is Cannon Beach, 20 minutes away. Astoria is just under 50 minutes north, and Rockaway Beach is less than 20.
From Portland we recommend taking the 26 northwest to the 53, which takes you straight to Manzanita.

The town is absolutely tiny, but still manages to host a number of nice hotels, two or three quite decent grocery stores, and a handful of restaurants.

We found our beach rental (Lago Mar 1) through Sunset Vacation Rentals. www.ssvr.com. You can look at properties online, or call and speak to them. If you call, give them some criteria (ei. location, size, swanky vs kitschy, etc.) and they can easily help you find something that works. Jenni especially was helpful when we were looking for our house. If you choose to rent through them, tell them we referred you!
